Direct Wealth (Jeongjae)

正財정재

Direct Wealth (正財, Jeongjae) is the element your Day Master controls, in the opposite polarity: earned income, savings, diligence and realism.

What it means

Wealth in Saju is the element the Day Master controls: what it can manage and own. The opposite-polarity version is “direct”: regular, legitimate and predictable. For Gap (Yang Wood) it is 己 (Yin Earth). Think of a salary rather than a jackpot. It is read as diligence, thrift, punctuality, a practical mind and a preference for results that can be counted. In a male chart tradition also reads Direct Wealth as the wife.

Which stem is your Direct Wealth

A ten god is a relationship, so it depends on your Day Master. Find your Day Master on the left; the stem on the right is your Direct Wealth. A branch counts as Direct Wealth when its main hidden stem is that stem.

甲 Gap (Yang Wood)己 Gi (Yin Earth)
乙 Eul (Yin Wood)戊 Mu (Yang Earth)
丙 Byeong (Yang Fire)辛 Sin (Yin Metal)
丁 Jeong (Yin Fire)庚 Gyeong (Yang Metal)

己 Gi (Yin Earth)壬 Im (Yang Water)

癸 Gye (Yin Water)丙 Byeong (Yang Fire)

How it works in a chart

  • Wealth has to be held. A strong Day Master with Direct Wealth manages money well. A weak Day Master surrounded by Wealth is “a poor man in a rich house” (富屋貧人): money is all around but hard to keep, and the work is exhausting.
  • Wealth produces Officer: steady income supports position and reputation.
  • Wealth controls Resource: too much attention to money is read as being at odds with study, rest or the mother (貪財壞印).
  • Rob Wealth attacks it directly, which is why readers look at who sits next to a Direct Wealth character.

What to watch

  • Caution to the point of missed chances.
  • Measuring everything, including people, by cost.
  • Overwork: Direct Wealth earns by effort and finds it hard to stop.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Direct Wealth and Indirect Wealth?
Direct Wealth is money earned steadily and kept: salary, savings, property built up over time. Indirect Wealth is money that moves: business, investment, commissions and windfalls. A chart can have both.
My chart has no Wealth. Will I be poor?
No. A missing Wealth character does not mean missing money. It may be present among the hidden stems, it arrives with luck pillars, and many charts earn through Output or Officer instead. It does suggest that money is not what motivates you most.
